Not being big on Halloween I was having difficulty using the Oscraps Team Collab, Lil'Monsters
http://www.oscraps.com/shop/product.php?productid=31397&cat=339&page=1 till I saw this fabulous paper by MaryPop and I knew just what I wanted to say and how it would look.
To save you eye strain, here's what I wrote:
Id been looking forward to this cinema trip for the longest time. Finally, FINALLY a cinema in London was showing The Rocky Horror Picture Show and we were armed with cigarette lighters and knew all the witty and sarcastic audience participation. We were not dressed up - well, we were only young teens, I must have been about 16 so Em would be 14 or so. Rocky Horror was double billing with Young Frankenstein which I was not at all sure about, being the worlds worst wimp when it comes to horror movies. But Em talked me into it and so the lights went down and the film started.
And the music started. Oh-my-goodness. My heart rate started racing, my pulse went through the roof, my palms were sweaty and I felt like I couldnt breath. I closed my eyes and did the best I could to block out the sound. I couldnt escape past all the other cinema goers so all I could think to do was to slide down in my seat until I was sitting on the floor. What was I thinking? This was quite the scariest moment of my life, made worse by the fact that I was sitting on the dirty floor, too terrified to move.
Then Emilie laughed.
Then the rest of the audience laughed. WHAT? Really? In a horror movie? Finally Em leaned down to me and said with a harsh stage whisper For goodness sake, GET UP. Its a comedy, you know.
Embarrassed, I eased up into my seat and watched the rest of the movie with fingers covering my eyes, jumping a mile each time there are a loud bang or creepy music. I never relaxed through the whole thing and really missed the entire point of the movie it is hysterically funny. In fact, its so hysterically funny that Young Frankenstein is now one of my all time favourite movies with the best line ever in it, that I use all the time . Could be worse. Could be raining.
But I can still feel that sense of fear, the sheer horror of it all, how my body reacted. And 30 years on I still cant watch horror movies real, scary ones. Mel Brooks movies, however, Im at the front of the queue!
