my journaling reads:
I wasnt there when it happened. I was back at the hotel with Jo. You and Pete had hired mopeds and decided to go off and explore the island. It wasnt until late in the afternoon that I got a phone call from the hotel reception, I dont recall what was said, but I do remember getting into a taxi and being driven to the small local hospital. The facilities were limited, but at the time I didnt think this was a problem, I thought theyd patch you up, give you an invoice and send you on your way. It wasnt until the following day, when you still werent able to feel sensations below your neck, that I began to realise something much more serious had happened. I wish Id phoned the insurers earlier, but when I finally did make the call, they reacted so swiftly and which such decisiveness, it was impressive. Within a few hours, a nurse and doctor were flown over to meet us at the hospital. A private ambulance transferred you, me (and all our holiday luggage) to the local airport where we boarded a waiting Learjet to be medevaced to Singapore. On arrival, another private ambulance transferred us to the Elizabeth II Medical Centre and within an hour of arriving, you underwent a MRI scan that showed youd suffered a compression fracture of your 5th cervical vertebrae. In lay-mans terms, youd broken your neck.
