Journaling reads: Born in 1885, died in 1937. I look at this photo and try to think about how things were back then. He died at age 52 - much too young. He worked for the Railroad. He worked hard, and was lucky enough to weather the Great Depression, caring for his wife, two daughters, and mother-in-law. I think of him sleeping in his easy chair, probably listening to the radio, and dog tired from work. I also think about the photographer. Was it his wife, or maybe one of his daughters that thought to snap this picture of George. Was this a daily occurrence, that he fell asleep each night in his easy chair, or was he just extra tired this particular night? They probably laughed over this photo at first, but with George's death in 1937, I am sure they looked at this photo with warmth, wishing they could catch him asleep in his easy chair just one more time.
