The Picasso

Continuing on with my defacement of the famous landmarks of Chicago, I present the Picasso, an untitled 50-ft tall sculpture in the Richard Daley plaza in the Chicago Loop. This cubist sculpture by Picasso was the first major public artwork to be commissioned for and installed in downtown Chicago and likely started the trend that led to other public artwork being commissioned, like the Bean, etc.

This seems to be another love it or hate it work of art; when it was first unveiled many critics likened it to an insect getting ready to pounce on and eat another insect. Picasso is said to have taken inspiration for this piece from a young 19-year-old woman who posed for him back in the 1950's. Yikes, woman or insect?!? Whatever, we had fun looking at it and posing in front of it. :)

Shirley, Anna's Metro Graffiti APP works perfectly with Picasso! And that's a great photo of a cute couple touring the arts in Chicago!

I love this - I'm in the "woman" instead of "insect" category!! LOL Great picture and really awesome layout!
