Skyscrapper Extraordinaire
Okay, two stories about this page...
First, have you ever been driving your car, deep in thought, and when you come back to yourself you look around and ask, "How in the world did I get here?" Wait, that's never happened to you? Just me, then. Aaaaaaaanyway, with regards to this page, I started out purposefully enough, with an idea in mind, and then I got lost in the process. Hours later, when I sat back and looked at what I'd actually made, I found myself here. Such a different endpoint than what I had in mind! Gotta respect the muse, I suppose...
Second, while putting the finishing touches on this page, I happened to mention to Mr. Squeak (um, yeah, he's gonna love that!
) that I was having a problem with the perspective on this page; i.e., the buildings and person are not in the right proportions. Generally for most things design-related, whether it's wall art or furniture or what-have-you, he prefers clean, simple lines and neutral tones, so when he looked over at what I was working on and he saw the riot of color his eyes kind of crossed and he said, "The perspective? THAT'S your problem with this page?!?" Everybody's a critic!
And if you've been following along, you'll probably guess that this is yet another in a series of completely random pages for my Chicago book. Oh, and I've come up with a new title for this collection of random pages: "I'd Better Get a Grip Soon and Come Up with a Plan to Scrap My EleventyMillion Chicago Pictures...Eventually." Catchy, yes? It sort of rolls off the tongue...
Do you recognize the building on the page as the John Hancock building? Wow, I really got it wrong then--I was going for the Art Institute! (I kill me sometimes! ) Chicago is famous for its wonderful architecture, and we spent a great deal of time looking up as we were walking about the city. Extraordinary stuff there!
