Journaling: Prior to heading up to Tahoe this year Mario, the boys and I printed out a calendar and mapped out a preliminary itinerary. We gave each day an alliterative title that would give clues as to what the plans for each day would be. This Monday was titled, Moderately Mild Monday. The idea was to take a moderate hike (3-5) miles to help us gear up for longer, more strenuous hikes later in the trip.
With that in mind we headed out to Squaw Valley planning to take the gondola to High Camp and then hike down to Shirley Lake and along Shirley Creek. When we got to Squaw we found out that the tram was not running due to high winds.
What to do? What to do? One of the things I most love about my family is their go with the flow attitudes. A change of plans was obviously in order and so, rather than hiking down the mountain we decided we would hike up and see how far we got. Now mind you in the past when we have hiked down this trial I have often thought of people we have met along the way who were hiking up the trial that, These people are insane! Today I learned that insanity is contagious-especially when you have teenage boys egging you on! June 26, 2012"
