Journaling:
My dad always valued family and reunions, but he also said one didnt need to attend but every five years. In 1979, I was grown with a family of my own, attending a Kennamer reunion and listening to my father describe life in the house where he was born, the house his father had built from a kit in 1910. The little house had two bedrooms, a kitchen and living room for a family of thirteen. The boys slept in one room and the girls in another. During the summer, my dad said they slept on the porch that wrapped around the house. I remember him telling us that very little had changed, except that a bathroom had been added on one side of the wrap-around porch. When I went to see the house in June 2011, except for the roof line, I hardly recognized it. Even the storm cellar my young son had explored was gone. Although the current owner recognized our family name and invited us inside, I didnt want to see the changes. Inside my head, I know time brings change, but my heart wanted to remember my dad standing on the porch describing his life in the little farm house. Journaling, July 2012
