After years of watching the Tour de France on television I experienced 4 days of the tour in person, in Belgium last week. The thrill of seeing each rider in person was tremendous. We cheered as they presented the teams and watched as each rider left the starting ramp for the prologue. Out on the open road we drove as close as possible to the route, then walked to watch the men ride by. We ate frites, then drove to another crossroad! The caravan of advertising cars throwing out trinkets was fun for kids and adults alike.
This picture is one I took of Thomas Voeckler warming up before the prologue. The crowd cheered him with true admiration. He won stage 10 today!
Thanks for looking.
