Journaling
Today I took Mom for a walk, like I usually do on Sundays. We did our usual loop but today I really noticed her enjoying tactile things- the wind in her hair, the sun on her face, the way she reached out her hand to touch the leaves on the shrubs we passed by. I always encourage to feel things, experience her surroundings because I know how important touch is. We were walking by a playground and she said Oh I would love to get my feet in that sand! Well because of her wheel chair, I couldnt get her close enough to do that so I did the next best thing, I brought the sand to her. I scooped up a big handful and let it sift through my hands into hers. Oh! Thats cold she said with delight in her voice, her face all lit up like a childs. We kept passing the sand back and forth til it was gone and my heart was over flowing with joy. We continued on our walk a little further and I scooped up handfuls of Poplar Fluff that was covering the ground like snow and had her feel how soft it was-like down feathers, and had her blow it into the breeze with a wish. We came upon a lilac bush-one of her favorite flowers, so I picked a few off for her to smell and bring home. we listened to birds chirping and water fountains tinkling and dogs barking and it was the most perfect walk ever! I am so thankful that she taught me how important the little things are.
