So, this started off as a page for the July 2012 Creative Techniques Challenge, but somewhere along the way I took a detour. Sigh. My unruly muse strikes again! That challenge looks like fun, though, so I'll have to try it again--or maybe I should say I'll have to try to try it again!

The photo here is another one from the vast collection of photos and memorabilia my mom left me when she passed a few years ago. I was certain I'd find a photo of her in this pile I could use for the creative challenge, and perhaps because it's summertime and the livin' is easy (um, unless you're living in the American south where the temps are in the triple digits, or unless you're living in the American southwest where fires are raging, or unless you're living in England where the rains have yet to let up...hmmm, maybe it's just here in northern California where the summertime livin' is easy, but I digress...) I gravitated toward this photo of her on a beach in Bermuda. I've been going through this box o' stuff off and on for the past 4 years, and you'd think I'd be used to it by now, but it always, always surprises me to see my mom as a carefree young woman, doing what any other pretty single girl would be doing on the beach when a camera is pointed toward her--looking cute for the camera. Do we ever see--really see--our parents as anyone other than our parents?
