Journaling reads: I figured when Rachel turned 16, she would want her license right away. Her 16th birthday came and went, and when I asked her, she said she really didnt want to get her license. At first, it was fine, but eventually I was wishing she would as that would free me up of having to drive her places. At 18, she said she was ready, and besides, it wasnt right to have other people drive all the time. I told her I agreed, as I would like to have to not stop everything to come pick her up and bring her places. She said no mom - I mean my friends. Youre my mom, youre supposed to drive me places, but I am imposing on my friends. We laughed at that answer, but I was thrilled at my newfound freedom. After her test, she asked if she could drive over to see Joe, as she was excited to be able to show him her temporary license. She liked the fact that being 18 already, she didnt have the restriction of not being able to drive with her friends, however, I told her for the first month or so, her mom and dad were putting those restrictions on her, just to give her time to adjust to the responsibility.
Rachel even has her own car, which was Rons late aunt Jeannes. Her 95 Camry has only 80,000 miles, and because it was an automatic, I talked Ron into Rachel getting the car instead of the 84 Accord, which is a standard. I just thought her starting out, it would be good for her to not have to think about shifting, and more about about the road and the other drivers. She loves the car, and although it is not new like many of her classmates got from their parent, she is still thrilled.
