Once Upon a Time

A little bit artsy and a little bit traditional. This photo of me was taken in 1952; I'm a grandma now, having a fourth grandchild, a first granddaughter, in August:)

Inspired by and thank you to...

Journaling:
Once upon a time
there was a little girl
who stepped over a little creek on her way to Sunday School
who made a pretty home for her dolls in her closet
who pretended adventures on the dirt road walking to school
who climbed fences to win at hide and seek
who rode her bike without a helmet
who tightened the skates attached to her shoes with a key
who ate Big Mamas tomatoes and okra
who carefully unwrapped and rewrapped Christmas gifts
who played red light, green light with Engineer Bill
who watched Howdy Doody on a black and white TV
who learned to swim and to dance the shuffle at tap class
who rode merry-go-rounds and reached the sky on swings
who missed school with the mumps and chicken pox
who jumped rope, reciting the rhymes, for a long time
who had piano lessons for only a year
who endured a mean first grade teacher
who earned As in school and wanted to be a teacher
who joined Blue Birds, then Camp Fire Girls
who cooked a hot dog on a bunsen burner
who read in bed under the blanket with a flashlight
who shared a room with her twin sister, her best friend
who accepted Christ at the age of nine

Oh my. I had so much fun walking down memory-lane with you. I didn't have a twin or take piano lessons...I joined Brownies, then Girls Scouts, but just about everything else is an echo of my life. (I didn't come to the Lord until I was 25...40 years ago, 3 children and 12 grandchildren later!) I love the photo. So 50s.

I love your journaling! I love that you want your family to know you not only as grandma but also as you were growing up! I too went through these events and what wonderful memories you evoked! I am sure kids do not think we were ever kids ourselves. Love that photo - gorgeous blending! love that stitching love the page!

Wasn't life different back then. I miss that. Beautiful layout, and wonderful journaling.
