Journaling reads: The first time I saw a horse do this, I was concerned something was very wrong. Checking into it, I found out that when a horse raises his head and curls up his upper lip, it allows a horse to better examine a scent. In the case of Bentley, however, he does so whenever people pass his paddock. I have come to think that he does so to get attention, and to show people he is the Alpha Male, the Top Boss, the Number One, and his behavior is telling everyone to remember that - such a character. Even though that may be the case, it is just so darn cute that he does this and it always makes me smile, and challenge him by scoffing at his toughness, and usually gets him a carrot treat. I see it more as a smile, but I always remember to keep my distance, because Bentley certainly is not the friendliest horse, and will take a bite out of you if you dont keep your eye on him.
