My journaling reads:
Our tour guide had told us that the year we visited [1999] would be the last year that visitors would be allowed the climb to the top of El Castillo o Templo de Kukulcan, Chichen Itza. It was an opportunity too good to miss. We started up the seriously steep front face of the pyramid, we took our time and didnt need the rope that was there to help people. Once at the top, the views were stunning, offering a 360o panoramic vista of the beautiful surrounding Yucatan scenery. Getting back down was an adventure in its own right. Too steep the just walk down, the easiest way to descend was actually like a child coming down stairs ... on our bums! Not particularly elegant, but definitely practical.
Thanks for looking!
