"You haven't seen Paris until you have walked along the banks of the Seine River. It flows right through the heart of the city between high stone embankments. Paris has 37 bridges across the Seine. In the vicinity of Notre-Dame there are about 200 books sellers along the embankments. They also sell old drawings, prints and souvenirs. At intervals you will find stairways down to walkways right along side of the river. There you can get close-up views of barges, houseboats and tourist boats cruising the river. Larry and I were there during the winter of 1978. After mornings at the Louvre we would go to a charcuterie for fresh bread, cheese, ham and, of
course, a bottle of wine. We would then go down to the river, find a bench for a winter picnic, and happily
watch all the happenings on the busy Seine river."
