Granny Glaholm

Granny Glaholm - I started this page for last month's strong women challenge -

In 1854, my Great-Grandmother was the first white female child born in Nanaimo, B.C. Her parents and one other family had arrived just a year previously. They were accompanied by one other family and a few animals...
It's difficult to imagine living in midst of nowhere with local Indians nearby. Fortunately other families arrived within the year.
Brave women who, with their children, followed their husbands from Scotland to mine the coalfields of Vancouver Island.

such a lovely photograph. Love the amount of black you used in the layout. very striking - very strong - like I knew she had to have been.

wow my great grandparents left Scotland for the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand for exactly the same person - coal mining. What an elegant woman, she looks strong and dignified.

Jacqueline, your design choices certainly reflect strength in a classy way! She's a beautiful woman with a rich history!

Wow, amazing picture. LOVE the B&W and the beautiful composition.
