Color Challenge_April 2012-Fleeting Beauty

Someone told me this cactus blooms for only 2 days once a year. He didn't know the name of it, and I would like to confirm that claim, so if someone seeing this can tell me about it, I'll change my journaling to reflect better knowledge. The photo was taken in the Phoenix area.

LATER: Scoured the web and found that is the Argentine Giant Cactus (giant, referring to the size of the flowers): http://phoenix.about.com/od/arizonapicturesandphotos/ig/Cactus-Plants-and-Flowers/Cactus-Flower-68.htm

I believe it is true that cactus flowers are very short-lived! How lucky to see them...love the earthy colors here!

Glorious blooms!! You are very fortunate to have a photo of these!! Great Layout!! I think it is called the Hedgehog Cactus and blooms once a year, with the blooms lasting sometimes as long as five days.

Okay, I scoured the internet and found what I think it is: http://phoenix.about.com/od/arizonapicturesandphotos/ig/Cactus-Plants-and-Flowers/Cactus-Flower-68.htm

The Argentine Giant Cactus.

The Hedgehog cactus looks similar, but its flowers are pink to lavender.

This is so lovely and how wonderful to capture this shot when the blooms last so little. Beautiful page, Sharon.

What a great photo and cactus blooms are special because of their short life and amazing beauty- you captured and scrapped it beautifully
