I used to write a slice-of-life column for a newspaper. I wasn't quite as curmudgeonly as Andy Roony, but almost. If I were still writing, this would be the subject of one of my columns:

For years I have been fascinated by the way the beauty industry has co-opted the word "product." The general use of the word is simply anything produced by human effort...a "creation." When did it come to mean "stuff you put in your hair," as if it needed a capital P? I do love the gorgeous color scheme that shows up in my shower because of all the "product" we use (notice, it isn't plural even though there are several products!). Without my glasses, this is the cheerful sight I behold each morning.
