Pipe Dreams

I love Anna's new Snow Fun kit, but in the part of California where I live, we don't get much snow (heck, we don't get much rain, but I digress...) but the colors in her Snow Fun kit are perfect for some old photos of my mom I've wanted to scrap for a while.

I've mentioned on previous layouts how, when she passed, I inherited boxes and boxes of memorabilia from my mom--photos and newspaper clippings, postcards and letters. It's been just over three years now, and I have yet to finish sorting it. As I'm going through it all, sometimes a photo will capture my attention, and I'll want to scrap it while my own thoughts and feelings about it are still fresh. These are two of those photos.

Journaling reads:
"When I knew her, my mom was not a camper. In fact, she had very little use for the Great Outdoors. If it would mess up her hair, if she couldn't take a daily bath, if there was no place to hang up her make-up mirror, she was not interested.

She was, however, always mischievous, with an earthy sense of humor that embarrassed me when I was younger but delighted me as I grew older.

These photos of her surprise and intrigue me, as they were taken on a camping trip to Yosemite she took with some friends c1954. Mom? Camping? And whats with the pipe? I suspect the pipe belonged to her then-beau, and she was just having fun posing with it for the camera.

It has been a real eye-opening experience, going through my moms old photos. I am seeing glimpses of who she was, before marriage and children, before divorce and hardship, before failing health. Although it was wonderful to inherit her boxes of photos, I am reminded once again that I wish Id known about these before she passed; I wish I could ask her about the playful young woman in these pictures."

Thanks for stopping by!
I was just going to say she reminds me of a Katherine Hepburn kind of woman when I read Marnie's comment. So ditto what Marnie said...and the Standing O!

What an awesome layout! I love the colors and you did a fabulous job of using the kit for a non-snow layout! What a fun memory :) You are blessed to have this!
