Christmas 1946 - A bountiful year for me for gifts. Looking at the furniture, it says we were still living in the house with my grandparents. My mother was back from her war job in Philadelphia but my father was not interested in going to school or even in working. Today we would say he had PTSD but then it was just a mystery that brought unhappiness to my family. My parents had only been married for four and a half years, and the couple that was so much in love now were parents of a toddler. There was little future in that coal mining town but I was still blissfully unaware. I was enthralled by the new dresses hanging on that doll stroller and I had more dolls than my arms could hold. So very mid century, my toys included an iron and ironing board so I could be well prepared for the life of an adult woman! I still do like ironing so something definitely stuck. I see the Christmas tree is still small enough to be placed on a table. I wonder if my grandfather cut it from the woods across the street from the house. I wonder if I went with him to do so. I still wonder about a lot.
