We got the *Elf on a Shelf* last year. The story of Santa's Elf (we named him Fred) who watches kids by day and returns to the North Pole each night to report their behavior to Santa. Each morning the kids search the house to find the elf. (He changes location each day.)

Fred came back last year on December 2nd.
We woke up to find him perched on the window sill in the family room with that same happy smile on his face that he had last year. The kids had been asking about him, waiting for his arrival. They were so excited to know that he would be watching them again each day, and reporting their behavior to Santa each night with the help of a little Christmas Magic!
