Journaling reads:
We wanted to give Neill a mini African safari experience
but we did not have that much of time to travel too far
out of Pretoria, so we were really excited to discover
The Lion Park, a day safari close to Kruegersdorp,
just about an hour's drive from Ouma and Oupa's place.
It was such a beautiful sunny day out in the field,
a welcoming change from the chilly weather that we had
to endure lately in the city. We read the warning posted
everywhere in the park about the importance of keeping
all your limbs in the car at all times and couldn't help
feeling both thrilled and terrified at the same time!
Eventhough the park was not as big as a game reserve,
it was definitely not nearly as confined as a zoo either.
It had more than enough space for animals to roam
freely and feel quite at home. The lions must have been
very familiar with vehicles by now, though, because
they gave us quite a chill coming up so close to the car.
I can assure you, it was such an amazing feeling
making eye contact with a 'king of the jungle' who's not in
a cage! I wondered if he could smell fear through the windows?
All in all, Neill said he enjoyed the animals but nothing
excited him as much as the family playground. I am sure
most of the park's junior visitors felt the same way
as we saw a countless number of children of all sizes and
colors playing together peacefully (and noisily) there.
Maybe that's why it's best to let the wilds be wild?
