This page is a perfect example of my, um, unrestrained "style" (and I use the word 'style' loosely!). Those of you who know me know that I've often described my scrapbooking style as "Is the Pasta Done Yet?" where this is a reference to throwing cooked pasta at the kitchen wall and seeing if it sticks. If it sticks, then it's done. So it is with me and scrapbook pages--I throw things on the page and see if they stick. Well, today everything stuck!
There was white space on this page at one time, truly there was! I reached a point where I couldn't decide what to take off, and I told myself that trapped white space was worse than no white space, so I just unleashed the hounds, as it were. What finally made me stop putting things on the page? I started typing up the credits list!
This is my take on Judy's gorgeous page
https://ozone.oscraps.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=234075&title=morning-tea&cat=1351, and the story is this...
In the part of California where I live, we don't really get seasons. We get "wet" and "dry" (with waaaaaay too much "dry" lately, but I digress...), but we don't really get four seasons. Still, in mid-September, there is a slight shift of the sun in the sky, the days are noticeably shorter and there is a chill in the night air, all saying that summer is really over and fall is on the way. I was feeling a bit melancoly today and from all of that came this page.
The page title comes from the song "The Last Rose of Summer." If you've never heard this song before, you simply must listen to it, but keep a hanky nearby. It never ceases to tear me up, a perfect song to listen to when you're already feeling blue!
My favorite version of this song is by the Irish group Clannad. In case they're difficult to read on the page, here's the lyrics:
" 'Tis the last rose of summer left blooming alone
All her lovely companions are faded and gone
No flower of her kindred, no rosebud is nigh
To reflect back her blushes and give sigh for sigh
I'll not leave thee, thou lone one, to pine on the stem
Since the lovely are sleeping, go sleep thou with them
Thus kindly I scatter thy leaves o'er the bed
Where thy mates of the garden lie scentless and dead
So soon may I follow when friendships decay
And from love's shining circle the gems drop away
When true hearts lie withered and fond ones are flown
Oh who would inhabit this bleak world alone?
This bleak world alone"
