Anita Louise (19151970) improved picture coming from the film A Midsummer Night's Dream(1935).It is one of the most popular of all of William Shakespeare's plays. It has been performed countless times, and filmed at least four times. It was not the first of his plays to be put to the screen;that distinction goes to King John, the rarest performed of all his works. But Midsummer was the first to earn a nomination for Best Picture by the Academy. However,it is far from one of the Best films of 1935;the only good acting in this horrid adaptation is Olivia de Havilland, and this isn't saying much. She is not at her best...The very nice, beautiful sets, splendid visual effects (Puck turning into a dog,the donkey head, the glittering title cards at the beginning),and lavish costumes do nothing to make up for the miscast actors, horrible acting, terrible songs, inexplicable musical sequences and ungodly pacing that bog down this film. Not one of the best films of the year.Kit:Vintage Spring Value Pack by Linda Cumberland
