Journaling reads:
I always say Im British. To say one is English is practically considered blasphemous, something to be embarrassed about and something to hide in this country. But I was born and have lived all my life in London, so that makes me a Londoner, ergo I am English. Surely? Ah, so now I am admitting to being English AND from the south east double whammy! Oh, but it gets worse. I speak with a Standard English accent, so I sound like I come from the south east. This country is so busy being politically correct and not oppressing the minorities in the home countries that the biggest group of all, the English have been taught to hang our heads in shame we are the largest home nation, thus we must be the oppressor.
So I always say Im British. And to be fair, I, like just about every other Brit in the land, am an amalgamation of all our home countries. When I look at my ancestry I have lots of Irish & Scots in me, a little English, but absolutely NO WELSH. Why then, would my entire family think to decamp en masse to the wilds of rural Pembrokeshire after living most of their lives slap bang in the middle of London?
