I don't remember ever having loved a teddybear
but obviously I did. What happened to it, I wonder?
And if I went out to play, my mother would make
me wear one of those little pinafores sometimes
made of simple red cotton with contrasting
edges around it or on Sundays it would actually
be made of voile or organdy delicately embroidered.
I stopped wearing them when I had my fourth
birthday.
