Lupe VELEZ (1908-1944):nicknames "The Mexican Spitfire" and "The Hot Pepper". Vlez was born in Mexico.From an early age,she had a strong temper and an explosive personality.In 1923 she moved to Texas.She began dancing in vaudeville shows.She moved to California. Vlez soon entered films,making her first appearance in 1924.In 1928 she was named one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars.Disappointed with the movies,she left Hollywood for Broadway.Returning to Hollywood in 1939,she made a series of comedies.She had a number of highly publicized affairs:a romance with Gary Cooper,Charles Chaplin, Errol Flynn before marrying Johnny Weissmuller.Vlez committed suicide in 1944(overdose of sleeping pills).
