Naming Kheri

I thought about naming her Jheri. I had seen the spelling on hair care products. It would be cute to name her after her daddy, his name is Jerry. Our son, however, was also named Jerry. Three Jerry's would most certainly be too many. So, thinking that I was clever, I decided that Kheri would be a cute name, with a very unusual and unique spelling. Kheri Leah would be named after her daddy, (sort of), Jerry Leo. I had never seen that spelling, so Kheri it was to be. We would call her Kherbear.
A nurse in the hospital asked if her name was Hawaiian. I liked that, Hawaii evokes visions of beauty.
On the night she was born, after getting me to recovery... being famished, Jer and my family went to eat at Pizza Hut. It was open very late. At that time, Care Bears were very popular, and Pizza Hut was having a Care Bear promotion. It was a set of 4 CareBear drinking glasses. The limit was one per customer, and each week a new glass with a different character would be released. This was week 1. Jer ordered the promotional glass of the week, and excitedly told the waitress all about his new baby girl, and how we would call her "Kherbear". She related the story to the manager, and they decided that he could get all 4 glasses as a souvenir set. She still has the set of glasses that her daddy got on the night she was born.
Now the name Kheri is certainly unique, but, not quite as unique as I thought. When Kheri was 3 years old, I read an article about the tiger at the Phoenix Zoo. The 23 year old tiger was named Kheri. Imagine my surprise to see this same spelling. We later found out that there is a country in India named Kheri.
"Kheri", not an exclusive name. but one that I think is as beautiful and unique as she is.
