White Posters

I made everything on this double layout.

journaling is very long:

Girls Show used to RULE my life!

I couldnt wait to grow up and get to P.V. to be in Girls Show. My mom would take us every year to see our baby sitter in it. I wanted to be in Marching. Then, when I was in 6th grade, Girls Show was cancelled. Even though I was 2 years away from high school I was devastated.

Sometime during my sophomore year I heard rumors that Girls Show might return. Sure enough, junior year it was back. It was only one night and there were fewer events, but it was back. Since Marching was one event that was cut, there didnt seem to be a place for me, so I signed up for White Posters and waited and waited and waited and NOBODY CONTACTED ME!

One day, my friend Denises older sister Debbie asked if I could help her with (gasp!) GREEN posters. Do I dare walk on the dark side? My mother would have a fit! But my desire to be IN Girls Show was stronger than what color I was, so I said YES. As I predicted, my mother had a cow! But were WHITES! I was a White, your aunt was a White, your cousins were Whites, and you have to be a White. But I didnt care because I didnt want to miss out. I worked hard with Debbie that year and waited anxiously for the night of Girls Show. After all the work, the blood, sweat and tears, the flag was WHITE for posters. I cried and cried and blamed my mother because I felt she wished it on me for being a traitor.

My senior year rolled around and I didnt think I would bother with Girls Show. I was too busy in Drama. Then one day during play practice, I was called to go to the Girls Show office. I got there and saw the Green and White Chief sitting with the advisor. The advisor told me that both Chiefs wanted me for the head of Posters. I was shocked! Are you kidding me? She then, in a very nasty tone, told me since I was Green last year I had to be Green this year. I answered her back with even a nastier tone and asked to see the Girls Show hand book! Since there wasnt any, I was going to be WHITE! I knew that would make my mother happy.
journaling cont:

I put my heart and soul into creating the posters and I say it like that because these were anything but posters, more like large murals. I made shirts for every girl on the WHITE team. Now its the in thing to have team shirts but I did it first (go me!). I had my poster girls decorate every single locker of every single girl on the White side too. We painted from sunrise to sunset. We enlisted the help of all our boyfriends and every guy we could to help put the frames on some of our art work. And in the middle of all this, I somehow was on Cheering and Volley Cage ball as well as the school play!

I had heard rumors that the Green side was getting help from former Girls Show alumni with their posters and it upset me. So I carefully examined what we had finished and decided it wasnt good enough. With less than 2 weeks to go we started the biggest mural, our castle, over again.

It took a team of 30 or more people and, the story goes, $200 dollars of duct tape to hang up all the decorations we made for the gym. Every inch of every wall was covered, and even so I was still nervous that we wouldnt win. The Green side was very traditional, while our side was out of the box.

Finally the night arrived and while down in the lockers helping my Chief do her make up, I was told to go out into the hall, that someone needed me. That someone was my brother, who was working AV that night. He said Sis, you won! The judges came out, looked at the Green side, and then one by one turned their heads towards your side and their jaws dropped.

Sure enough the flag for posters was WHITE, but it was one of only two white flags for the night. Greens won that year overall, but you couldnt tell that by the LARGE PARTY at my house that night!

WP87 RULES!!!!!!!!!!

The very next year all posters had to be done on a single large canvas, framed and then hung by the custodial staff. Guess painting the gym over again each year was out of the question. That's what $200 dollars of duct tape does to walls (smile).

What a great layout. It really captured so many memories. Love your use of so many pictures and so much journaling!
