Scar

This collection by Carol W. Designs was too perfect for the story:

Scar is the most ridiculous cat I know.
He came to our yard in 2020 to get some food we were putting out for our stray cat colony. He was wild, hissing and growling at us even when we looked at him, and fighting all other cats. It took us forever to catch him to get neutered. He got really offended and disappeared for a few weeks. But hunger was stronger.
As testosterone withdrew from his system, he calmed down a little, and one day, I was able to touch him. He was not impressed, but little by little, I was able to come closer to him, and from brief brushes we graduated to short, gentle pets, and eventually to more substantial ones.
We called him Scar, because he was always mean to other cats and always had some battle scars on his face.
As time went on, our cat colony dwindled, partly due to natural causes and partly because Scar fought all the “competition.” But nature hates a vacuum, so a new cat appeared: Ginger (orange tabby male), and became Scar’s main nemesis. Ginger’s motto could be “do no harm but take no sh*t”, so when Scar attacked, he protected himself so successfully that Scar got injured in every single duel to the extent that last year his paw was so swollen he couldn’t walk. We had to take him to the vet. I thought we wouldn’t be able to trap him, but I was able to guide him into a trap with a treat. We thought he would have to be sedated for examination – he was better behaved than our house-cats. We thought it would be close to impossible to keep him inside for recovery – he stayed in his crate, used the litterbox, and slept on my lap for hours. I thought he would throw a fit when picked up and put in a carrier – nothing of the sort, zero protest. He would even snuggle with our dog, but was not able to be friendly with our indoor cats. Eventually, when he felt better, he wanted to go back outside, so we let him.
He still lives in our backyard, comes inside the house from time to time, or hangs out on our screened-in back porch. Every night, he accompanies me when I take our dog for a walk. He knows his name. He knows he is forbidden to attack Ginger (and he definitely does it less often). He is our ridiculous, clever, temperamental, mean, sweet, Halloween cat: total sweetheart and total assh*le in one black furry creature.

Thank you for writing the story out again separately. This allows me to put it into the translator and thus read many interesting stories. Scar is truly something special! Thanks to your persistence, you were able to tame him a little—at least for his recovery. It's wonderful that you were able to help him and that he can still visit! The story is heartwarming. You created a great layout for him. :heartpumppink:
