I used an older CP kit, Sailor Boy. My grandfather was a Navy man and while in HI we went to the Arizona Memorial. It was ...... I dont even have the words for what those brave men went through. The memorial is so touching and to be there with my Grandfather was super special. I overlaid the photo on the portal window.

This is beautiful, Tracy, and I totally agree, there are absolutely no words to describe the enormity of seeing the Memorial . It still gives me chills and I saw it 7 years ago. I can't imagine how wonderful it had to be seeing it with your grandfather. I only wish my dad had had the chance to see it. I love the way you overlaid the photo over the portal , brilliant idea and the sailor super-imposed on the list of names as well. Perfect choice of kits. When we arrived and I first glimpsed it, there was a rainbow coming directly out of the memorial, I felt like my dad was there visiting it with me. I've never experienced anything like it.

Thank you Jeanne. :heartpumppink: I was there in '92. Its so crazy to think it was that long ago. I'm so thankful for this memorial and being able to see it with my Grandpa. I'm sorry your dad never got a chance to see it. I love that you had a rainbow, what a sight that must have been.

This brought tears to my eyes ... and I've never even seen it in person. You really brought the reality of it home with your addition of the list of names. A touching and beautiful page.

Thank you Diane. I remember standing there looking at those names. I looked for our last name to see if any distant relative was on it, but there wasn't. It was somber, and quiet and moving.

This leaves me speechless. The sailor overlay over the names is deeply meaningful. We can't make out the list of names exactly in your layout, but the overlay humanizes all of them. Not just names, but people. With families, and memories. How tragic. The overlay over the portal window is inspired. And how amazing that you got to see it with your grandpa. Thank you for sharing this with us, and for joining in on the Color Play Challenge!

Thank you Amy. The Sailor overlay really made the names stand out. In my photo you cant read them much better then here. Its old school and I had to scan the photos. I'm sure if you googled you could find the names. I have no idea why I looked but at 19 I searched, even knowing we didn't have family on that wall. Its sobering how many were lost and the number of lives altered. I wish I was a scrapper back then and had written down the experience instead of just trying to remember.
