This picture and the story behind it are burned into my heart.
DH and my first dachshund together, Karlchen and Timmi, his best friend, who belonged to our landlords at the time, were totally exhausted after the walk in mid-summer 2003. We lived right next to the forest and often took Timmi with us across the fields. It was so hot that day that we
put cooling towels over the dachshunds after the walk to cool them down a bit.
Nowadays, I wouldn't go outside with a dachshund in these temperatures, but would rather do longer walks in the cooler early morning and evening hours.
