DAY 1 - Amazon Viner

Finally! Last :D LO with Affinity Photo instead of Photoshop. Biggest challenge was masking, because it's not easy to see what you're doing when carefully masking out edges, although the live view helps. There is a quick mask tool but it doesn't seem to work if you've already created a mask for the layer. Also tried using @[25204:@annaaspnes] distressing tools - again, hard to see what you're doing and the equivalent of the Photoshop brushes panel is way more awkward to use - Because of impaired vision-unfriendly GUI, I had to do a lot of guessing to pick the right brush and you're stuck with arrow keys to do brush rotations, which only happen in defined increments. And as usual had many undos because AP is positive it knows what layer you should be on instead of the layer you mean to be on, so you're often doing edits on the wrong layer.

Partial journaling:
In Dec 2023 I somehow became a Viner - invited by Amazon to receive "free" product in exchange for reviews. It turned out not to be as great as it sounded. Product isn't free - you have to pay taxes on the fair market value (usually Inflated by Amazon) of what you receive and 99% of the offerings are cheap Chinese cr@p. And you have to review a certain number of items to stay in the program.

...I scored a number of things that were actually useful - at least temporarily, such as a new travel neck wallet, a car cell phone holder that actually works and a package of hemostatic gauze. I discovered glass nail files and new-fangled nail clippers as well as (sadly, often poor-quality) devices that can actually clear a cerumen impaction or vibrate old ink off of pen nibs.

I slogged thru images of "tactical" dog collars and cake toppers to try new foods: fresh vanilla beans, selim peppers and besan. OMG, pimple patches, where have you been all my life!??

...But like many Viners, I've known for a while that Vining is an addiction that steals way too much from real life and that there are only so many overpackaged-in-plastic earplugs, nail brushes and nail clippers I need. So..

Do I Stay?

(I can always cut back.)

Love this page and how you included journaling and made it part of page design. Very cool! I'm sorry to hear you struggle with Affinity - I use it all for all my scrapping and love it. Though it is true, Affinity and Photoshop are different.

totally agree with Betty Jo--your page is hilarious! Didn't know a thing about Affinity or being a Viner. Will have to investigate. I at first thought your page was about placement of packages by delivery persons--I have had notes placed where I know they can easily see them and still not put them where I request(a place to keep them safe and out of the weather)--Most do but not all. Anyway, that is another page!

Almost everything has already been said. I enjoyed reading your journaling and had to laugh. Your layout is so eye-catching and wonderfully designed. Simply stunning. Thank you so much for joining the challenge.

Love the design of your page. And I learned something new - I had never heard of the term Viner before.

We went from getting almost no Amazon packages to getting multiple deliveries per week. We have had a hose reel on our front porch for some time along with a sign saying "place (i.e. hide) packages here" but some Amazon drivers plopped packages on the porch in plain sight anyway. So we put a sign on the ground which helped because they have to look at the ground to put the package down, but one driver put the package right on top of the sign in the picture - and took a picture, no doubt to show the boss how well instructions were followed. I was originally going to fill my LO with all Amazon product images for the crazy stuff they sell (didn't have room to tell you about the snake wrangling equipment and the models with exaggerated anatomy that had to have been photoshopped in), but Amazon product images are copyrighted.

PS - Don't dismiss Vine reviews (which are labeled as in exchange for free product). Some of us take our "job" seriously and try to be honest and helpful. Unfortunately, many others write reviews that lead the responsible Viners to believe those reviewers never opened their packages. You can usually tell when a review is good and when it's terrible.

I had a lot of experience with Affinity for doing simpler things - mostly making origami instructions from photographs. Because of its GUI issues and my eyesight, I could not imagine doing LO's with Affinity before this month. But having done all five party LO's with Affinity, I have a much better idea when I can digiscrap with Affinity and when it will make me totally miserable. There are some cool things about it, but I can't get around the low vision-unfriendly GUI.
