Nerstrand State Park

October 2024 Challenge #5- Rearrange a Template

This was our first big camp trip since moving to Nebraska. The primary purpose of the trip was to meet up with an on-line friend. We camped seven nights. The first night was at Kilen Woods- a halfway point to our final destination. It was raining and the mosquitoes were TERRIBLE. We had to wear mosquito net hoods when taking the dogs for walks. At Nerstrand Big Woods we camped six nights in two different campsites. Minnesota doesn’t have self-pay kiosks at their parks so we had to make reservations online. The only campsite available to reserve was one with no electric hookups for the first three nights. Initially, I wasn’t concerned because we have a good solar power system for alternate power. Unfortunately, I hadn’t counted on the site being surrounded by a dense canopy of trees. Plus, the weather was so rainy or cloudy there wasn’t much chance of sunlight slipping through the trees to charge our batteries. We had to be really frugal with our use of power. Thank goodness for the Jackery power station to charge up our devices. With all the rain and being forced to be inside the trailer the majority of time, our devices were our only means of passing the time. Blessedly, the rain did stop long enough for us to spend a pleasant evening outside when Jeanne and Wendell came for a visit and evening meal. Minnesota welcomed us with all manner of precipitation during our seven days- mist, drizzle, light showers, steady rain, downpour and torrential rains. Eventually, the grounds became so saturated with moisture that you could hear squishing sounds when walking through the grassy areas. All the heavy rain meant Hidden Falls was fully flowing but with all the runoff - the creek waters were brownish. Another bright spot during the trip was heading out for a walk at the perfect moment to catch a magical scene of sunrays breaking through the trees thanks to someone’s very smoky campfire. As typical with most all camp trips, the last day dawned clear and sunny but we spent the day driving 400 miles to home in horrendous winds.

WOW.. this is a fantastic page! I love seeing real life documented, details of the everyday and the trips taken... The framing of your layout makes it pop, and everything is so wonderfully color coordinated... Standing O! #127

What a beautiful layout + wonderful chronicaling of Minnesota's less than stellar welcome. Sheesh, you two are hardy, actually you four. It was so much fun meeting you and Denny irl, it was like we'd known each other forever. What a wonderful job with the template, braver than I was. Great kit choice and you really made Minnesota look good.
