Here's my entry for the Wednesday challenge using Shaui's template - with a little jigging.
Journaling reads:
We had always intended to go to Pulau Ubin, a small island just off Singapore, but only got around to it the month we were finally leaving Asia! Anyway, a fun family day out was planned: a ferry ride over, hire bikes, picnic on the beach and mosey round experiencing a bit of jungle life. So, the boat ride was fine - the kids enjoyed it. And the island looked enticing as we approached, very basic (although probably deliberately created so!), and we quickly found bikes to hire - not hard given that the only shops in the kampong were cafes & bicycle hire places.
Then the moaning began - mostly from Paddy. Its too hot, this bike doesnt work, I want some water, the usual stuff. We stopped to drink fresh coconut juice from a roadside vendor, and although the kids deemed the drink not worthy, they gulped it down anyway. Dominic & I pointed out monkeys dancing around in the trees above us and they just shrugged their shoulders. Then we heard a rustling and, there, not 3 feet from us, was a largish monitor lizard doing its best to get through the fence. This is like meeting a dinosaur face to face - serious wow factor! Dominic & I were mesmerised. The kids barely registered it, and rode on with so what expressions! Unbelievable.
The picnic lunch was not the best weve had - same old Asian beach problem: mozzies, sand flies & pollution.
And at the end, when we stopped for a drink this was the happy, family picture captured for posterity! Nice one kids!
