On the Paternal Side

The second part of the spread for my grand's baby book that gives a glimpse into his great- and great-great grandparents.

This layout is based on photos of documents and a photo extraction. I used paper and notebook brushes to create texture on the documents, as well as transfers/overlays from the Artplay Palette for spatters, stains, and artstrokes. Embellishment is simple. The number of ways in which the family name was spelled is kind of a mind bender—didn't realize until I was looking at the records that there were at least 10 variations. The challenge for me here was to keep the documents readable when printed in 8x8 format

what a fantastic documentary from Elliot's great-grandparents.
The photo of the two of them is adorable (and reminds me of my own paternal grandmother; she also almost always wore a floral kitchen apron). They look so contentedly into the camera and seem kind and balanced (or happy because of the delicious Kielbasi).
I love the story of the name changes with the official immigration documents.
I had to google kielbasi. learned something again.
By the way: her glasses are so stylish, they remind me of Iris Apfel.

Awesome extraction! great to include all the documents. I do like how all the threads hold this page and a family together
And yes I can imagine I will be running once mine starts walking!

This is so cool!!!! I love that you have the documents. What a treasure! I love the way you put the layout together with the extracted people and documents behind. What a cool book this will be when youre done.

Extractions work so well on this page with all the straight lines of the documents. Gives the people more life.

This is so cool! OMG, I have my great grandparent's documentation, they immigrated during that same time period coming from Bohemia. That extraction is perfect & I agree with @Joansmor , it really brings them to life amidst all of the paperwork. I never had the chance to know my paternal grandparents, but, the flowered apron & housedress brings back so many memories of my other. Beautifully done

Excellent presentation, lots of memories and well designed. Agree about the extraction. Perfect compliment.
