mourning cloak - aAcolor challenge 6.26.24

I saw this beautiful mourning cloak (nymphalis antiopa) from my study and wanted to photograph it.
I carefully stalked it to no avail. It closed its wings and we both stayed in the same position for a long time. So first photo with wings folded. Suddenly he flew away and I was too late....
so here I have to fall back on an illustration from around 1800 by Jacob hübner.

Fabulous design! Love the use of the spiral stitching and repetition!

Such a creative design, beautifully executed. Love the use of red on the dark background, especially the large red art stroke.

Beautiful design.. I love your story and perseverence, both part of memory keeping.I hope you fulfil your dream.

Beautiful use of color - how lucky to even see one! There are a pair of swallowtails I see every day, but they seldom land near me. Still it's a lovely sign.

An adventure nonetheless! Wonderful way to show the butterfly's in flight motion with the stitching and so glad you included the one with its wings still folded to complete your story. Wonderful take on the challenge!
