Venice Beach was always rather edgy - now it's over the top edgy, but still beautiful. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed with the glitz and glamour and excess of living in LA.
Thus I thought the torn edges would convey the edginess :) I filled the tears with black and clipped Manly papers to the mask parts.
The photos are collaged inside the edges, some blended, some framed, lots of Transfers and Brushes, including those fabric transfers I like so much - I just kept adding on, just like this area just keeps adding on people and cars ($30 to park for dinner).
Journaling is on top of Manly MM, with a Manly Artsy Kard clipped to the laptop image.
Added elements and splatters but tried to keep the colors down to blue inside the black and white. Added a yellow stroke to the glasses and a yellow brush to color the cap of the MM.
The "Venice" title was from a shop, desaturated.

the californian beach feeling just jumps out at you on this double-page spread.

I'm with you, just a visit is plenty. I'm pretty sure I'd have balked at $30 to park though. Love all the details you packed in and the black torn edges. And great embellishment on the glasses and the Manly man with the yellow cap.

I glanced at this yesterday and my reaction was "frenetic," so I wanted to come back when I had more leisure to study it--and, yes, "frenetic" is exactly what you created--the spread is like a mirror of Venice, and a truly picture-perfect capture of impressions of this place. I am drawn to how you contained the chaos within those torn frames though...kind of like including an editorial impression. Bravo!

Yes, that's it! It is frenetic - tons of people, electric bikes and scooters in the pedestrian areas, pedestrians in the bike lanes, all different kinds of loud music, yelling, preaching, protesting, verbal advertising for the "weed wagon", amidst the constant pervasive fugue of pot smoke. But the thing is, you are dazzled by the beauty of the place and convince yourself it's normal. I think I'll add this to the journaling. Thanks for your insight!

Amazing captures. Hollywood Beach in Florida is similar, just no pot smoke. You have created a cohesive page highlighting many sites. Love the reflection of the palm trees in the window!

Your use of the torn edits, just exemplify the edginess of Venice Beach. So very well done.
