Journaling Reads: I stood and stared at these trying to figure out if they were real, I mean why would this magical butterfly world put lawn ornament butterflies on the tree?? I wasn’t the only one wondering. They had to be 7-8 inches across. These Aztec Butterflies (Orizaba silkmoth) are indeed real and found in Mexico and the forests of Central and South America and can grow to have a 12 inch wingspan. The Aztecs believed that butterflies oversaw taking warriors' souls, who died in battle or were sacrificed, and the souls of women, who died giving birth, to their resting place.
