Journaling reads: “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:7 (KJV)
God does not want us to “give” because we feel obligated to give. The Greek word for “cheerful” is hil-ar-os’ which actually translates as hilarious. I think it means to laugh out loud! I’m sure you know that kind of joy and happiness! God wants us to be happy, happy, happy! when we give. This verse, I believe, is specifically speaking of the financial support from the Corinthian church for poorer Christians the Apostle Paul was ministering to, but I believe it could be said of anything we “give” to anyone, be it the church, a missionary, a charity, or whatever. If we purpose to do so we should do so hilariously! I think our motive and attitude in our giving will determine how God blesses us (or not) in return! 1/7/24
