Winter Solstice

Reading “The Night Before Christmas” was always a big deal in our house, and we cracked it open starting every Thanksgiving. I found a board-book version with a pillow-top cover for Elliott's birthday to keep the tradition going.

I started this layout by dragging the frames onto the canvas, filling them, adding two Multi-Media Holiday elements, then placing my iPhone extraction. I also plunked down a big photo of Elliott's Christmas tree to the left, figuring I would blend it into whatever background I chose. This turned out to be Solid Paper # 4 over Artsy Paper #4 on Overlay Blend mode. I changed the blend mode of the Christmas Tree photo to color burn at reduced opacity, then brushed around a bit to blend with Artsy Brushes. This sparkled things up a bit and revealed a hint of the presents underneath the tree. I also made the wood in one of the Multimedia Elements “woodier” by duplicating it on color burn blend mode.

How lovely, to pass on your tradition. The pillow covered book sounds delightful. Love the closeup of his little hands on the book!!

Adorable! Love the tradition. Wonderful blending and love the golden colors. Merry Christmas!

Love the tradition, we have the same here at the end of christmas eve celebration. He looks so cute checking out the book.I am sure it will be a favorite of his.

So precious and adorable. Love the idea of a pillow-topped board book. Great extraction and blending of the tree.

Passing on traditions and at the same time reliving them yourself is one of the best things about having children and grandchildren. Especially at Christmas. You experience this magic most intensely as a child or with children.
beautiful page for this holy time.

Is Elliott 1 already!! Beautiful story, especially love the photo of the chubby hands. Books, both new and passed on, have made Oz who he is at almost 3. You've made this collection look so bright! (I'm having trouble with it, need to try some more blending).

Thank you. I was trying to express the magic for the reasons that you say. Being an elder in American can be confusing at times, and the kids/grandkids are centering, and I'm grateful for that.

You manage that wonderfully.
In each of your pages, one can see the love for your family, for the beautiful family traditions and all this with a lot of wit and humor. Thank you for that.
