I chose Veterans' Day because my Uncle Richard (Rip) served in the US Navy during WWII. I had another uncle, Paul, who's plane was shot down somewhere over Germany, he was a Bombardiere and his remains were never recovered. So, this day is very special to me.
Journaling reads:
They were called “The Greatest Generation”
for good reason. They went to war as
young men, barely more than boys,
not because they had to but because
they felt like it was their duty.
My Uncle Richard (Rip) was one
of those young men. He lived into his
90’s and here he is at his 90th
birthday party.
He served on an aircraft carrier.
in the South Pacific. They survived
a terrible typhoon in which many’
of the seamen lost their lives. He said
he didn’t think any of them would live
through it. He never spoke of this until
he was into his nineties. He even
had the actual video of the typhoon.
