Our journey had many side trips. We visited the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace Memorial. A solemn and serene memorial rested at the top of a hill. We arrived in the early evening. The park was quiet and peaceful.

The natural spring is the one used by the Lincoln family.
After a short drive, we arrived at the Knob Creek Farm of the Lincoln Family. The large, empty pasture offered an impressive view of the once thriving farm. I ventured along a path to the nearby creek. I was drawn to the water which was murmuring and dappling in the afternoon sun. I did not stay long after I saw the sign: beware of venomous snakes.
