My-name

Another page in The Story of Me. Not only are there wonderful papers and elements but there are also great prompts. I've got a few more pages that need to be recorded!

Journaling says:
My parents named me Linda Lee Noel when I was born in 1957. Linda was a popular name at the time and I have met plenty of Linda’s in my lifetime but fortunately, in my small graduating class of 70+ people, I was the only one.

I was named after my older sister, Brenda Lee Noel. Many people don’t realize that I had an older sister. She was born in March of 1956, two months prematurely. She passed away after a few hours and my parents were heartbroken. I was born 19 months later. I kept this name until I got married in 1991 when I dropped my middle name and legally changed my name to Linda Noel Slycord. However, in my self talk, I do sometimes still address myself as Linda Lee!

I am not sure when this picture was taken. I am guessing around my first birthday. When I look at it, I notice the cute little curl on the top of my head. Did Mom do that with bobby pins. I remember that my hair was very fine so I think that she must have worked hard to get that curl just right. And I notice the dress. It is a dotted swiss organza with lace around the collar and sleeves. I look at the white shoes…were they new for the picture? Mom always thought that we should have good shoes to wear…she thought that putting cheap shoes on my feet would cause damage later in life. Funny the little things that come back to you all these years later.

Why a beautiful page, Linda! It was interesting to ready about your name but I was sad to hear about your sister passing away. I was born in 1959 and came ten weeks early. I weighed a whopping 2 pounds 14 ounces. Many babies born that early did not survive. I am so thankful that neonatal care has grown so much since then. Your baby picture is absolutely beautiful!

That’s amazing that you lived at that size. The progress is wonderful!
