Monarchs

One of the first things I did when we acquired our new/old (1876) farmhouse last summer was to establish some pollinator pathway beds. Well, the monarchs came! We had a healthy crop of caterpillars thanks to all the milkweed I planted, but instead of staying in the beds, the monarch caterpillars wound up in some alternative places. This page is about that. Living and learning how to be a steward of the earth, but feeling good about the monarchs we supported for the good of our planet, wherever they decided to reside.

I used the Noetic Collection exclusively in this layout, and the artsy layered template is the base. To squeeze in a third photo, I duplicated the frame, then blended the large photo into the background with inverted masking. I edited the wordArt so it said only “change” instead of “change hurts.” The background is artsy paper 2 layered (overlay blend mode) over artsy paper 1 over solid paper 1, with the textured areas of the artsy paper layer-masked away so as not to impede the reading of the journaling.

Great adventure. The pods from those milkweed make great rustic stars for your country tree once they are dried.Love the faint corn stalks in the blended photo.

Great page and I agree a timely story for Halloween days. We need more people to be aware of the importance of backyard habitats as we see more and more land turning into housing developments.

What a great idea! We have lots of pods and I love the idea of using them on the Christmas tree. Thanks!

Wonderful! Walt and I are going to start a wildflower garden in the spring in hopes drawing in more butterflies.

Hot glue, what ever you would like for a center,I used dried zinnia blooms and string or twine to hang. They are sort of delicate but if packed correctly will last from year to year.Sometimes they need a glue refresh.
