Banker Mine CR390 1.7 mi. SW of Winfield The Banker Mine was started in the late 1890's and operated, off and on, until as late as 1927. It featured a tunnel 3,700 feet long and shipped mostly silver and lead, and was one of the best producers in the area.
Mon.day 7 a.m. dispersed camps

There were a lot of early rising campers and hikers and vehicles gathered in clumps throughout Clear Creek Canyon and in the ghost town of Winfield. We were still the only jeep in sight and had things to ourselves the whole trip. Remember the hike up and the view from the top of the tailings pile.

Sunday's page is https://ozone.oscraps.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=430869&title=independence-pass&cat=all if you missed part 1 of the story. :)

The spiral of stones was a surprise find on the top of the tailings pile. If you've never seen a mine tailings pile, the photo of the one at Banker Mine is upper left on the right page.
so delightful to see your travel reports and photos again. wonderful spiral of stones (a litttle like fractals).

Wow, that's gorgeous terrain. The FotoInspired works really well here, especially balancing out the big landscape on the left. So good to see the red Jeep again....
