The metropolitan cathedral, whose modernist architecture is inspired by the Mayan pyramids of the Mexican Yucatan,
is a religious building of impressive dimensions (75 m high and 106 m in diameter).
Opened with great fanfare in 1976, it is one of the largest Catholic buildings in the world, with a capacity of more than 20,000 faithful.
The four interior stained glass windows, gigantic (60 m high) and superb, give the whole a serene and warm tone that contrasts with the exterior of the cathedral,
austere and monolithic, with the so-called brutalist architecture.
