This challenge is extremely personal to me. In April we lost a young boy who was afflicted with depression and anxiety.
His parents are commented to raising awareness and raising funds for charities that educate and support those struggling. The journaling reads:
"When I first began watching these kids Bren was 9 years old, his sister 6. I was his nanny then,
later to become his sitter. By the time he entered 8th grade we joked I was his unofficial Uber Driver.
Bren loved basketball. He practiced everyday either by himself or with one of the multiple teams he was affiliated with. He dreamed of playing for his
favorite college in Indiana, and the way he was going he wouldve had his choice of where to go.
But in middle school Bren was afflicted with deep depression and severe anxiety. He lost his battle this April. He was 15.
On September 15th a basketball tournament was held honoring Bren and his love of basketball.
The goal was to raise awareness about mental-health issues and money for charities addressing mental health.
The kids playing me reminded me of Bren when he was young. It was a bitter sweet day.
I took photos to give to his folks who were responsible for the entire event."
