I created the sketch of the photo using an app called My Sketch. There are many options, but I used the sepia and converted the image to black and white. I liked the way the strokes on the photo appeared to have been created with charcoal. There are multiple layers of the photo, and the top layer uses a ColorBurn blending mode to make the image have a richer black. I placed the Uplift papers and transfers from Uplift and Axiom behind the photo sketch to add the color. Afterward, I used the charcoal brushes to add dimension to the curly hair. Other charcoal brushes, splatters, and paper textures were add to add to the energy and visual interest around the design. The elements create a cluster for the title-Smile.
