Summer Heat Stroke

This page is kind of a grim :( Ran across a great aunt's yearbook photo/tribute. She was a beloved high school art teacher who died suddenly from a heat stroke in Kansas, 1934, at age 44. I did a little research and found an article from the Kansas State Board of Health about deaths from excessive heat in Kansas that year...more than the previous nine years total. On companion page, I'll include the tribute--quite lengthy and complimentary, which will help balance the emotional heaviness of this page.

Process: Note: Charcoal, ArtsyPaint, and ArtsyStains used in this layout have been recolored. To RECOLOR brushes: Recolor the layer via Edit> Fill. (Ensure the Preserve Transparency box is checked.)

Started with Ochre Solid Paper 2 and placed ArtsyTransfers Ochre 3 on left edge and 4 at top right of layout. Used Prisma app to lend interest to a poor quality black/white year book photo and clipped it to the white paint layer of ArtsyTransfers Ochre 4. Also clipped photo to ArtsyPaint 16_6 and placed above head. Clipped yellow flower from MultiMedia Flowers 6_1 to a layer of ArtsyTransfers Ochre 4. Recolored several Charcoal, ArtsyPaint, and ArtsyStains brushes and arranged on page. Layered Ochre yellow rose petals between MultiMedia Sun psd file layers and placed on layout. Created a brush from journal article and stamped on page. Clipped a version of photo to frame from ArtsyLayered Template 220. Finished with Splatters, PaperTextures, WordArt and title.
OMG this is stunning Art Marnie, great blending and colors, thanks for the story, so deeply sad!

Congrats on the GSO, so well deserved!

Sad but a lovely tribute to your great Aunt. Beautiful colors and movement..... She would be very pleased.... well done.

Amazing art, Marnie, even if it's a sad story. Congratulations on the GSO!

What a gorgeous layout, despite the somber topic. I like the stamped text from the article. Congrats on your GSO!

This is what I aspire to. Art that tells a story. Can imagine what it must have been like for that poor woman. So sad.

Congratulations on the GSO.
Excellent work adding the bits of blue to all the warm colors. Your title work is wonderful.
I am sorry that she succumbed to heat stroke.
